Mooie nummers die ouder zijn dan ik ben. Toch een overbodige release, de zoveelste heruitgave.

Er zijn weer geruchten opgedoken dat er wederom een reünie in het vat kan zitten nu ome Phil er weer zin in schijnt te krijgen... Dan zal dit materiaal wel sowieso niet aan bod komen.

Iemand bekend met het 'Jonjo' label? Ik ken het niet en neem aan dit dat een release is waar de band niets mee te maken heft.

Jonjo is een 'dochter' onderneming van Decca.
King liked several songs such as "She is Beautiful" (which became "The Serpent" on the band's first album) and, according to Philips, they got the deal with King on the basis of that song. King signed the band to JonJo Music and licensed the short-term rights to Decca Records
Het origineel Genesis - From Genesis to Revelation (1969) is dus uitgebracht door Decca. Jonathan King 'ontdekte' Genesis. Het is hun enige uitgave bij dit label. De samenwerking ging niet verder omdat King wilde dat Genesis wat poppiër zou gaan klinken (de band is wat traag want dat lukte pas 15 á 20 jaar later..
) dus gingen ze verder met Charisma van Tony Stratton-Smith.In feite een zoveelste uitgave van Decca dus.

Ah, dat helpt! Dankjewel.
Ik heb een originele Decca vinyl persing van From Genesis...... en dat is voor mij meer dan genoeg van deze allereerste incarnatie van Genesis.

Lijkt toch wel een relevante release, volgens www.genesis-news.com:
"The band itself doesn't celebrate the 50th band anniversary with a relase - but one person certainly does: Jonathan King!
He eventually received the first demo tape by the band in July 1967, wich was recorded by Banks, Gabriel, Phillips and Rutherford during Easter 1967. King then gave them the opportunity to record further demos and then eventually their first ever album From Genesis To Revelation. In the light of this jubilee, a new compilation called 50 Years Ago is now available, and it's actually not yet another of those rereleases of the first album. Jonathan King says it's based on long lost master tapes, which were recently found in an old warehouse. The tapes got lost there along with many others, when London's Regent Sound Studios were sold in the 70ies. The person responsible to check the tapes knew the connection between King and Genesis and got in touch with him. Together with Steve Levine, Jonathan King remixed many of the tracks in his Liverpool studio. The results are now available on 50 Years Ago."

Het lijkt niet alleen een relevante release, het IS er een. Essential stuff dit. A winter's tale is een kijkje in de keuken van het opnameproces incl. dialoog en alles. Eindelijk een Decca-sessies met wat nieuws. Alle vorige bonustracks waren lift-offs van de Archives box (op 1 na maar ik kan ff niet op het labenummer komen nu).
