In 2012 maakte Sony een klein aantal Bob Dylan 50-jarig jubileumsets om te voorkomen dat de opnames door iedereen gebruikt konden worden. De zogenaamde 'use it or lose it' strategie op het gebied van auteursrechten. Slechts 100 van deze vier cd sets zouden beschikbaar zijn gesteld aan het publiek via onafhankelijke winkels in Europa.

Ze hebben in 2013 dezelfde strategie gebruikt, maar deze keer op LP. De 50-jarig jubileumcollectie 1963 is dit keer een vinyldoos-set van 6 LP,s met onuitgebrachte studio- en live opnames uit 1963.

De opnames zijn zonder bewerkingen op de plaat gezet
